In 1996, I started a free high school program at NYU Tisch School of the Arts Photography & Imaging. At that time, art classes in the public schools were practically non existent. I had taken my first photography class in high school and it changed my life. I am very proud of the program that I have developed which has morphed into Future Imagemakers, which I continue to direct.
Our Manifesto: Future Imagemakers are passionate about imagemaking. We believe in the power of photography as a means for self-expression, building self-confidence, and reflecting on our surroundings and lives. We strive to expand boundaries, open up possibilities, and learn from each other. And we embrace the Internet as a creative space with our website.
URBAN ENSEMBLE was a partnership in the 1990s between Tisch School of the Arts and community-based organizations. Jan Cohen-Cruz and I created this handbook with contributions from students and community participants. DOWNLOAD PDF
